Hello and welcome!
For all of you that are new here, I would like to introduce myself, my name’s Lisa and I’m the creator and owner of CreateMeBooks personalised books. I was originally born in Bristol and at 14 my parents relocated us to sunny Devon. As a child living on the Devon coast it was like being on holiday every day, meeting friends down on the beach, swimming in the sea; I couldn’t have asked for a more lovely childhood.
At 23 our lovely fishing town was starting to seem a tad too small. So I decided to embark on an adventure and moved to London. After a fabulous eight years I still had an urge to adventure some more, so at 31 I relocated to Washington DC and then moved down to Los Angeles, where I fell in love and my son was born. After many happy years, it wasn’t to last, and I decided to move back to Devon with my son.
Here I started my own Nursery School, mainly so I could work and look after my son at the same time. It was hard being a single mum and studying to get my Nursery Nursing Certificates, but I did it, and ran the nursery for seven years before selling it.
After adopting my second son, I was looking for a new career. With a spare room and, not having to worry about finding child care when the school holidays came around, I decided to become a foster mum and opened up my home to an array of children, from all different backgrounds and all different ages.
Taking the plunge and personalised books!
My wonderful husband entered our lives in 2010 and became fully involved in my sons and foster sons lives, we took the plunge and decided to get married in 2011. Later that year to our surprise, our beautiful daughter arrived.
Everything was ticking over very nicely until I discovered I was ill and had to undergo a very big operation in March 2015. During recovery I thought it would be nice to write a story for my daughter – something I had always wanted to do. Sitting on our settee, with a cup of tea in hand, I took my notepad and pen and wrote the story. My foster son then mentioned that he too would like a book just for him, so I decided to write another, this time starring a young boy.
I then got to thinking – there could be a demand for my personalised books. Having two children with dual heritage I also discovered there was a lack of books that embraced cultural diversity. From there I self-funded the design of a website, organised the printing, the illustrations, and here we are today with our successful business CreateMeBooks.
I hope you, and anyone you buy the book for, enjoys this book as much as I have enjoyed this journey.
